National Service Scheme

National Service Scheme, under the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports Govt. of India, popularly known as NSS was launched in Gandhiji's Birth Centenary Year 1969, in 37 Universities involving 40,000 students with primary focus on the development of personality of students through community service. Today, NSS has more than 3.2 million student volunteers on its roll spread over 298 Universities and 42 (+2) Senior Secondary Councils and Directorate of Vocational Education all over the country. From its inception, more than 3.75 crores students from Universities, Colleges and Institutions of higher learning have benefited from the NSS activities, as student volunteers.

NSS - Motto

The motto or watchword of the National Service Scheme is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’. This expresses the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other man’s point of view and also to show consideration for fellow human beings. It underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society as a whole. Therefore, it should be the aim of the NSS to demonstrate this motto in its day to day programme.

3.     Financial Assistance for Promotion of Youth Activities & Training

4.     Financial Assistance for Development and Empowerment of Adolescents

Composition of Units:

            As per the guidelines each NSS unit of the college must enroll a maximum of 100 volunteers for an academic session (Year). The college has three NSS units:

1.     Dr. Satwant Singh (Associate Professor & HOD, Punjabi, NSS Programme Officer Unit I Boys Unit).

2.     Mr. Navshad Wani (Assistant Professor& HOD, Psychology, NSS Programme Officer Unit II Boys Unit II).

3.     Mrs. Rabia Rasool (HOD, Economics, NSS Programme Officer Unit III Girls Unit).

6.     Health Awareness Programmes

7.     Adventure Programmes

8.     Celeberation of National/International Days for mass awareness and sensitization

The main objectives of National Service Scheme (NSS) are:

1.                 Understand the community in which they work

2.                 Understand themselves in relation to their community

3.                 Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving

4.                 Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility

5.                 Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems

6.                 Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities

7.                 Gain skills in mobilizing community participation

8.                 Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes

9.                 Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and

10.             Practise national integration and social harmony.
