Admission to Genreal and Professional Courses
Candidates (both male and female) having passed Class-XII (Higher SecondaryPart-II) examination with Medical and Non-Medical subjects are eligible for admission to Industrial Fish and Fisheries (IFF), Information Technology (IT) and Functional English (FE) respectively.
Candidates (both male and female) having passed Class-XII (Higher Secondary Part-II) examination with Medical, Non-Medical, Arts, Humanities or Commerce are eligible for admission to Mass Communication and Video Production (MCVP), Mass Communication and Multimedia Production (MCMP), Statistics, Sociology, Bio-Technology and Functional English.
Admission to BCA (Bachlors of Computer Course) is available for male students only. Students (male) having obtained 45% marks in their +2 examination can apply for admission to Psychology also.
- Minimum qualifying merit for purpose of entrance tests in BCA, IFF, MCMP, MCVP, IT, FE and Bio-Technology: 45%

The candidates opting for IFF, MCMP, MCVP, IT, FE and Bio-Technology are required to qualify the entrance test being conducted by the college. For BCA the candidates have to apply on university website as and when the University issues notification for the same.Courses as are not available in other Institutions are open to both male and female students for admission
Admission to any course cannot be claimed as a matter of right. Institution may restrict intake capacity in certain courses in view of availability of teachers, library and laboratory facilities.Admission to all courses is governed by the relevant rules of the statutes of University of Kashmir and by the guidelines laid by Department of Higher Education J&K Govt.
All courses are being offered on full time basis. Students enrolled in these courses cannot join any full time course/job, while being enrolled in this institution. Admission to 1st, IInd and IIIrd year of BA, B.Sc., B.Com, BCA are completed with in fifteen days of the declaration of qualifying class results, including the date of declaration of results. Although the process of issuance of admission prospectus and forms continues for all the fifteen days, however the members of Admission Committee remain available to the students on days 13th, 14th and 15th. Students are directed to remain in touch with the college, for specific dates of admission, immediately after declaration of their results.
Admission to Professional and Vocational courses BCA/MCMP/IFF/IT/MCVP/FE/ BIO-TECHNOLOGY
Bachlors in Computer Applications (BCA):
Only male students having passed their +2 examination in Science, Arts or Commerce subjects with a minimum of 45% marks (Open Merit) and 40% marks (Reserved Categories) are eligible to appear in an entrance test conducted by a competent authority/college duly authorized by the Higher Education Department, the schedule for such test shall be publicized by the concerned authority/college separately. However, the students having an aptitude for Mathematics are advised to opt for this course.
Mass Communication and Multimedia Production (MCMP):
This is a multidisciplinary course with the contents of Computer Science using Multimedia, Physics, Electronics and Mass Media. Government College Baramulla has the distinction of being the only institution to offer this course in the J&K State. The students having passed their +2 examination in Arts, Medical, Non-Medial or Commerce with 45% (Open Merit) and 40% (Reserved Categories) are eligible to appear in a selection test conducted by this institution.
Industrial Fish and Fisheries (IFF)/Mass Communication and Video Production (MCVP)/ Information Technology (IT: Both male and female candidates having passed their +2 examination with medical subjects securing 45% marks (Open merit) and 40% marks (Reserved Categories) are eligible to appear in a selection test conducted by the institution. Other subjects available with IFF being, Zoology, Chemistry and Gen. English. The students with Non-Medical subjects securing 45% marks (Open merit) and 40% marks (Reserved Categories) are eligible to appear in a selection test conducted by the institution for selection to B.Sc. with IT as one of the subjects. Students with minimum of 45% (Open Merit) and 40% marks (Reserved Category) in Arts, Science or Commerce are eligible to appear in a selection test conducted by the institution for selection of candidates to the MCVP course.
Bio-Technology:
Biotechnology has been introduced in this institution in the session 2007 as one of the subjects for three year degree course in Science. The candidates opting for this subject should have secured 45% marks (Open Merit) and 40% marks (Reserved Category),
The eligible candidates are required to appear in a selection test duly conducted by a competent body constituted for the purpose.
Functional English:
Functional English has been introduced as a subject in the academic session 2007. The candidates opting for the subject should have secured 45% (open merit) and 40% (Reserved category).

The eligible candidates desirous of appearing in entrance test for admission to MCMP, MCVP, IT, IFF,FE and Biotechnology are required to obtain Information Brochure /Prospectus containing three application forms against a cash payment of Rs. 50/- from the admission section of the college. A candidate appearing in the entrance tests shall be charged a fee of Rs. 200/- and this fee shall proportionately increase depending upon the number of tests a candidate chooses to appear in. The candidates intending to appear in entrance test are advised to fill up separate form for each course/subject attach a demand draft worth Rs. 200/- with each form pledge to Principal Government College Baramulla. Mere appearance in entrance test does not confer right of admission to any course.
Provision of SRO 126 dated 28.06.1994 regarding the reservation rules shall be strictly adhered to, for admission to all courses, where the condition of entrance tests is applicable. Once declared successful in the entrance test, admission formalities shall have to be completed within stipulated time.
Admission schedule and other detailed information for MCMP, MCVP, IFF, IT, Bio-Technology and Functional English is given in the Information Brochure issued separately. The candidates having secured admission in 1st year of non-professional courses in this college may opt for admission to a professional course and appear in the selection test. In case selected for such course his/her fee shall be accordingly considered for adjustment in his/her fee in the professional course.
The candidates eligible for admission to various courses shall append the following documents with the application form:
- Marks Certificate Class-X (attested)
- Marks Certificate Class –XII (original and attested)
- Provisional Certificate (original) from the institution attended last.
- Character Certificate (original) from the institution attended last.
- State Subject Certificate (attested)
- Category certificate (if any) issued by the Competent Authority (original and attested) incase any concession is demanded on its basis.
Note:
- All original certificates excluding provisional and character certificates shall be returned to the candidates just after completion of admission formalities.
- No candidate declared eligible by way of supplementary result of the qualifying examination shall be granted admission without submission of original notification issued by the competent authority.
The admission to all courses is purely provisional and subject to confirmation/registration by the University of Kashmir.
